In watching the Samuel Alito Senate Confirmation Hearings, I have never experienced such simultaneous feelings of entertainment and disgust. The confirmation hearings are being conducted in the most pitch-black humorist way, which I would enjoy but for the fact that there could not be a worse forum for conduct of this nature. The grandstanding, the overreaching, the unbelievable nitpicking, and the cheap shots at one's "friends on the other side of the aisle," have actually turned the Confirmation Hearings into a parody of itself. This is life imitating art. Can an entity, most astoundingly the "greatest deliberative body" in the world, satirize itself? I submit that it can.
