Cell phone suck

Oct 22, 2007 14:00

OK, so finally, I have to get a new phone.  AT&T has succeeded in pushing me out of my plan, so far.  Some of you know I have this old Nokia TDMA phone I have been reluctant to part with.  Not because I love the damn thing.  I love my plan.  Currently, I am paying $39.99 for 1000 anytime minutes with rollover.  Way good.

They, AT&T, hate me, my phone and my plan and want to kill me.

Recently, they programmed my phone to not receive calls from any network other than their own or land lines.  They try to blame it on the phone.  Um, not stupid.  We proceeded to ask them to fix it.

Some of you may also recall this happened last year, but with the other phone on our line.  They reinstalled the ESN and converted it to a GSM type phone.  Knowing this will fix my phone, too, I again asked them to fix it, spelling out how to fix it.  Their response:

We are not allowed to do that any more.

WTF?  So, I said, the bottom line is you are just forcing me out of my plan.

No response..... heh.  So, if I can find my contract from umpteen years ago, I can call a consumer lawyer.  (We already have a very good one for the business.)  Another pain in the rear.

At one other time, the guy at Radio Shack assured me he could get me into a new phone without changing my plan.  I may check that out.  AT&T did agree to waive the $69 activation fee and said there were many free phones available.  I also said I didn't mind paying that, the issue is the $20 more per month for the plan.....

I may just have to suck it up and get a new plan, after all, I have used the cheapo plan for almost 8 years now.  No wonder they are freaking out.

I am gonna ask that they roll over my unused minutes as well.  We will see how that goes...... Le sigh.
