» Played By:
Dianna Agron» Human Alias: Ellie Hope
» Human Age: 16
» God of...: Hope and Expectation
» Flair: Her presence inspires hope in people nearby and, no matter the situation or how she is feeling at the time, they will more times than not, go away feeling better. In the cases of people who are already very hopeful, their hope becomes quite ridiculous and they will often go off and do something that is probably very stupid and something they will regret a great deal later on.
» Flair Type: Continuous
» Fitting in: Sophomore year of high school - she's a cheerleader... who has no cheer... :D
» Personality:
Elpis is oblivious. To a great, great, great many things. People are sarcastic to her, she won't notice. People are mean to her, she really won't notice. People tell her they are being horrible to her then she'll just brush off the remark and go back to being bestest ever friends with them! She sees the best in everyone - everyone - and it doesn't matter what you say, she'll turn it around and make it a positive. Sometimes, she will notice something off with the conversation and then her mood swings will give you whiplash she goes from happy to angry to hysterically upset, right back to bursting with joy in all of three seconds. I don't think it's physically possible to penetrate the endless stream of happiness/hope that springs from her.
It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. That's a lie. But, it would serve as a pretty decent description if it said "It doesn't feel pain, sadness or disbelief. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dying full of hope." She's never ceasing, never stopping - write it any way you want it - she's the effing Special Hope Edition of the Terminator, okay?
Oh, and did I mention? Elpis is a mute. Haha, yeah. This tends to confuse a great deal of people as she'll stand by them and, she won't need to say anything and they'll still leave her feeling a great deal better about themselves. Weird, huh? It also means that family members who hang around just because they know she can't talk their ears off will still be irritatingly hopeful after they leave. Just so you remember her. The less innnocent side of her calls this divine justice ♥ -- The inability to talk is awkward, that's a given, as it means she has trouble telling people important things when the only medium to tell them with is sign language. However, you can't really argue against her point of view when she isn't actually saying anything, so trying to brush her off in person is a great deal harder. It isn't helped by the fact she has one of those faces where you just know what she's thinking.
» Weaknesses:
Elpis is like a moth to a flame when it comes to people lacking hope. She feels the need to give them hope or else she will become seriously restless and possibly a leeetle cranky. For a fifteen year old in Manhattan this can be quite problematic as she is likely to wander over to homeless people on the street and sit with them for a while and there is always a danger of getting lost or worse. She can't help herself though as with her new found mortality, she seems to have developed a sort of naivety where consequences are less of an issue for her - she basically has the mentality of a younger child or a toddler ¬_¬. It isn't that wisdom she has gained over the years has gone; it is just blurred and muffled by her old mentality in her new body. She is also quite selfish in her quest to fill the world with hope as, even if someone is late for their own wedding or something she will get in their way to make sure they are as hopeful as possible before letting them get on with their life. This may actually be quite counter-productive, but hey, if they start losing hope she'll just have to give them more, right?
In addition to being that pathetic moth to a flame, Elpis is also incredibly trusting. Seeing the good in everyone crushes any doubts she has about them and makes it less likely for her to question the things that they do. If someone asked her to rob a bank in a very hopeful tone of voice, her knees would probably melt and she'd pull on the first balaclava she found, blithe enough to hope that maybe they wouldn't get caught. As you can probably guess, this gets her into trouble a fair bit.
Elpis is a proud bitch. I know, wtf, right? But honestly, she is. If an adult who has always been mortal tries to make it sound like they know better she'll pull out the "I'm millions of years old, bitchplz," card and wave it around in their faces. With gods who came after her, she gets particularly frustrated (whilst remaining cheerful or going through a rapid mood swing) making wild attempts to crush their pessimistic spirit. In a twisted sort of way, her partial superiority complex is a way of taking hope from people which, although technically undermining everything she stands for, gives her a purpose and a need to revive the hope in people. Girl needs to see a shrink.
So help you gods, if you do ever actually manage to prove to her that you hate her, you'll discover she's really the wrong girl to piss off. Like I said, never ceasing, never stopping, except she really won't stop until your dead or, at least, your life is ruined, when it comes to war. Juuuuuuust, bear it in mind. Or, if you do manage to genuinely upset her without pissing her off, she'll be depressed every time she sees you and, srsly guys, she's got those big ol' puppy dog eyes going on. I defy anyone who says they can stand them. Now, here's where Elpis gets confusing. Somewhere, beneath the trusting, oblivious childish exterior, somewhere there is an unstoppable force of nature trying to take over the world. I guess you could forget about this, say it's only innocent because, come on, how deadly can Hope be? But, really, there's a sneaky part to this girl so it's probably best you keep an eye on her.
Unfortunately, Elpis tends to get a little carried away with her hope giving, further than the point of people being late for their own weddings. Once she really gets into the swing of things and she knows the person on the receiving end of all this hope is being affected in a positive way she will start to get hyperactive and her methods of inspiring hope get a little silly. To begin with, she'll feed you stories and scenarios that are quite believable but they'll grow more and more implausible as they go on. If you're daft enough to believe her then, kudos to you, you'll probably be able to shake the little limpet off but, if you cruel enough to doubt her and that ol' hope-o-metre begins to drop, well, you're stuck with her. Have fun.
After the fiasco with Pandora's Box and everything, Elpis has very severe claustrophobia. She is fine in crowds amongst people she knows but in small spaces and gaps where she is alone she becomes hysterical quite quickly. Because of this, Elpis can become unintentionally violent. She'll kick out and beat you to death with her fists. After you've been beaten up, however, she'll try and make it up to you with hugs and smiles and rainbows and ponies. Just, don't try it?
» History:
Elpis hasn't really done much in all of her existence. Her siblings did some interesting stuff, but not her. I think the biggest thing she is known for is getting trapped in Pandora's Box but, well, that was a little traumatic so we don't talk about that. For the rest of the time she was less tangible than she is now and, because of this, she was a lot more mobile etc. This was quite handy really considering she had to zoom about giving people hope. Unfortunately Elpis thinks she is starting to lessen in usefulness as mankind starts to lose hope in things more rapidly. She just can't keep up any more.
