The bling and the materialism.

Today's dentist visit was more intense than I expected -- or actually, the visit, during which I got measurements taken for a crown and then a temporary crown, wasn't too bad, but once the Novocaine wore off ... OUCH. It was also somewhat shocking to look in a mirror and see my mouth full of bling. Yes, I now have a painful sexy metal tooth. (Well, until Christmas break, during which I will get this piece of shiny removed and get the crown put in.) I don't remember my last crown being like this. I actually ended up taking some Tylenol for the pain, something that I very, very rarely do (I'm talking once every few years). It's that bad. Yes, yes, dentist visits lead to pill popping.

Didn't do any after-Thanksgiving shopping for myself, but I did assist my mother in finding "free" items at the local CVS. (How it works: you buy the item then get its cost back in CVS bucks, which you need to use within a month.) I got free headphones, candy, and cosmetics out of the deal, so I won't complain, even if (as usual) something went wrong at the register and my mom had to hang out and bug the cashier until they fixed everything.

(My Thanksgiving itself was fine, by the way. I spent yesterday at my uncle and aunt's house with a whole lot of cousins; nothing remarkable and nothing awful, which is just fine by me.)

Last evening I spent a good chunk of time reading about different mp3 players. Naturally, there is no agreement. Some insist iPods will always be king. Others say Zune is best. Still others advocate for Creative Zen or Sony or some cheap brand like Sandisk. In short, I'm still undecided. I don't really want to pay a whole lot of money (so higher end iPods are out), but I don't want to end up with crap either (so Sandisk is out -- anyway, their players are not very aesthetically pleasing). I've heard the Sony Walkman line has great quality, I've heard Creative Zen are wonderful (but they sometimes get the dreaded "white screen of death"), I've heard that no one will beat the iPod. (I'm not considering Zune based on what I've heard about it.) The iPod nano is certainly good looking, and let's be honest, the mere idea of owning an iPod is attractive to my materialism-obsessed mind. The Zen is slightly cheaper while still looking good; the walkman is also decently priced, and though it isn't *quite* as pretty, it has a solid reputation. But neither the Zen or the Walkman are so much cheaper than the Nano that I can easily justify either over the rest. Yup, still entirely undecided.

Mrmm. Looking forward to tomorrow~
