My political views have been maturing for a long time. I'm from an area that is very conservative and in a number of areas consider myself distincly liberal. However, I do believe in knowing my candidates and voting for an individual. Certain issues are heavily politicized, but at the end of the day we can find compromises that the American public can live with. Because I believe in being fully informed on both the liberal and conservative sides of the political debates of the day.
Here is the full transcript of the first '08 Republican debates. I haven't been able to find the full video online.
Romney was composed, gave a few non answers and was a bit cheesy, but was otherwise solid.
Guliani managed to hide his megalomania.
Three of the "also ran" candidates don't believe in evolution, and all but Guliani would like to see Roe v Wade struck down.
Ron Paul stood out to me as the candidate of the highest integrity. He would definitely take our country in a different direction.
Some of the candidates had some good ideas about responsibly restructuring Iraq and our relationship with them to facilitate a responsible withdrawal. McCain attacked the democrats for "celebrating surrender". I don't respect that. It isn't intellectually honest.
