Week 11: peer review Kath_85's entry:11/05/06

My Peer review this week is on
Kath_85's journal entry entitled Nice one Mr Marvell. Kathryn draws comparisons between the themes of Marvell's poem and Shakespeare's Henry IV, in particular the concept of honour and man's preoccupation with acheiving rather than simply being. I like the way that Kathryn incorporates both elements from our work in class and also her own experiences into her writing. She identifies with Marvell's exaltation of the garden, recognising the cathartic experience that retreating to our garden can give us. I can't help but agree with her- not much can compete with the meditative quality that washes over me as i sit surrounded by the natural world. An experience i dont get to have often enough! Kathryn drew my attention to something i didnt pick up on before in her suggestion that Marvell is alluding to Gods ubiqutiousness in his metaphor of "Skillful Gardener". Thus, in his description, Marvell is implying that God is not only responsible for creating and shaping our world but he is ever present within it and more noticeably within the beauty and sensuality of the natural world.
it was a pleasure to reflect on your thoughts, Kathryn...
