Acquired by Shero for his vast playoff experience, Sydor, a two-time Cup winner, did not play in the playoffs last season until Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final against Detroit.
“I was never really told why I wasn’t playing,” Sydor said.
He never publicly spoke negatively about the Penguins - a continuous act of professionalism that Orpik said will leave a lasting legacy.
“I can’t recall hearing him complain once,” Orpik said. “That was big. But the biggest thing he taught us was how to approach the job every day.
“The guy played over 1,100 games and has two Cup rings. He wasn’t playing a lot, but he was working hard every day on and off the ice and being a great teammate. The tendency for 95 percent of the guys in his situation would be to go the other way.
“Darryl chose to go about it the right way.”
And this is WHY Stars fans with long memories want to love him again.
