RIP Vibram

Sep 09, 2008 20:10

Today was a day of many tears and sorrow. I had to throw away my pair of Vibram boots. These boots were more comfortable than tennis shoes and got me through ROTC, the basic infantry course, Ranger school, Airborne school (surviving 5 jumps out of a perfectly functional airplane) and then 2 months in Iraq.

But like a sick dog or lame horse, it was time to put them down.

I've always worn shoes well beyond what normal people would, but a pair of boots like this that don't blister or create hotspots and the drainage holes in the side of the boot (which work both ways mind you) kept my feet mostly dry even in the hottest weather.

Vibram, you make outstanding boots and their loss will be felt.

Also, Woodwards book "The War Within" is making national news. I have every intention of reading it and I may be wrong. Yet my first impressions this guy is a basketcase.

He claims we have a new "secret" technique which is the reasson violence has decreases in Iraq (not the troop surge). This new technique is compared to the Manhatan project...

After a year of training and 2 months of patrols the only method I've come across killing insurgents and badguys is good old fashion bullets and explosives.

I really wish people will stop using this war to make a buck. We are doing our best over here and want nothing more to resove this and get home. We don't need people inventing "secret" methods we are using to creat drama and sell their book.
