(no subject)

This year's topic is a simple one: tell us, and your readers, why you're pro-choice.

This topic has proven harder to write about than I first thought; I assumed I would be able to write out a pithy little paragraph telling exactly where my beliefs come from. Not the case. I've never not been pro-choice, my feelings toward a woman's right to choose an abortion have never and will never change. I come from pro-choice, feminist stock, my parents always believing that abortion, while never an easy choice, can sometimes be the best one, and no one should deny any woman that choice over her own body, her own life. Abortion is the last choice in a string of choices, oftentimes bad choices, but one that should always have the option to be made. No close personal connections here, no abortion myself or anyone close to me (that I know), but I did march on Washington and remember seeing all those wonderful, amazing women and men there, all standing up for what they know is right. That's why I'm pro-choice.

Here's to 34 years of being able to make our own choices, and to many, many more in the future.
