BUFFY #5 - spoilery specs

"I imagine this issue of Buffy will leave fans talking, and some of it is gonna be unhappy..." (Scott Allie in the lettercol). Boy, was he right. "Some of it" was so unhappy that Whedonesque issued a new rule: people who don't like comics are not allowed to post in comics threads. "Post again and you're banned from this site forever. I agree with you in that if Joss is the ultimate baby daddy, he'll opt for maximum pain. I think he'll also create a little wiggle room for ambiguity. I suspect the identity of Papa will shift around as much as humanly possible, and then shift a little bit more.

Personally, although I keep up with the comics, I'm not a big fan of many of the choices they've made. The jury is out on this whopper of a choice, but I remain skeptical. As always, you have to give Joss props for going to places that few would dare. In the meantime, I'm perfectly content with the future fics in our own Spuffy community. For instance, "Time's Fool" by MsJane. She's constructed a compelling Buffyverse that gets me even more jazzed than the comics!

Since spacefrak I try to keep emotional distance from the comics. But Joss somehow managed to catch me inawares and make it hurt. I'm intrigued about this new development, and, although I'm sure that it will a world of pain for poor Buffster, I can't stop reading and can't stop talking about it.

I agree - "Time's Fool" is a great story. I started reading it and then decided to read when it will be finished. (I still haven't read the new chapter of "My Elizabeth" because of the whole comics drama)

Sure she was drunk, but having a baby by her sister's boyfriend is the most painful thing for her to imo.

The tragic thing will be... it would destroy the sister relationship. It just would. The transgression of the sisterly bond with that would make any situation where Buffy/Dawn/Xander are in the same room again nigh impossible. Co-existence wouldn't be possible. It would come to a choice. Buffy would have to excise someone from her life.

I still don't think it's Xander. But if that's the case, then it means that Joss decided to ruin Scoobies dynamics once and for all. Willow parts to her own journey and, possibly, her own title. Buffy gets estrangled from Xander and Dawn. Giles is dead.

"Slayer walks alone".

Can't fault your logic there. :(

I think Angel would be more painful. Just think of it: she'll be having a constant reminder of her betrayal, she'll be having a baby from a man she can't stand looking at and who is universally hated.

Plus I don't think Angel is the father because Joss loves to play with shippers, and since he usually gives chance to both Spuffy and Bangel, to have a son with Angel would upset the balance among the shipper battle out there

Joss can keep shippy balance by making Angel a biological father and Spike - de-facto father. That is, if the baby survives -- and I doubt it.

I think she will definitely forgive him after a couple of seasons, when Joss will milk out all the angst out of the situation. But I don't think that Buffy doesn't care what her friends think of her relationships. In season 6 she was afraid to tell them about her affair with Spike - and he was her ally who helped Scoobies during the summer when Buffy was gone. While Angel is regarded as enemy by all parties involved.

Well, in that case both Xander and Angel as her baby's father can't cause her much pain... :) If she doesn't care what the other people think, where's the drama?

Now I see where you come from. Yes, BtVS is a show about family - at least it was in the previous seasons. Yes, I agree, Joss could decide that destroying Buffy's family would be the most painful thing for her.

I don't see how it could be Angel. Season 8 starts 6 months after season 8 ended unless this is the longest pregnancy in history.

And I still don't think she's actually pregnant, at any rate.

I think she's really pregnant. As a mislead, that's too complicated.

RE: Angel. Here's the idea I posted on Whedonesque: Buffy was knocked up during the space-frak, but her slayer essence prevented the development of the foetus. After Severin sucked part of her demon essence, her reproductory organs started working normally.

I'm sure that Joss can come up with something more convincing - I only want to say that there are ways. Angel as a daddy can happen because it's epic, it's painful and it would work if Joss plan to make Buffy sacrifice her baby to bring magic back: the baby would be connected to the season 8 arc about the destruction of magic.
