Okay, what?! They've de-souled Spike with Joss's permission? PERMANENTLY?! And gave it to Drusilla?! And do we get to see this destroy Drusilla who should not be able to handle this?

Why such a freaking HUGE change in canon? While in theory I applaud Spike saying "I don't need it, I can be good without it!" I freaking HATE this comics playing havoc with souls, ignoring canon, and going off the grid in all sorts of directions that screw with everything.

Pfft.

I hate all the comics now.

To be honest I don't think It's permanent, just for this particular story arc. Still a bloody stupid idea though.

I have the impression that Joss was at least in the know. I doubt that Lynch could introduce such a crucial, mythology-defying twist without Joss' permission.

When I asked Lynch about W&H involvement in Twipocalypse, he said that it was discussed at length in our IDW/DH phone calls. Now, when the thread is locked, I regret about not asking him whether he discussed with them the soul plotline.

I wonder if it's okay to ask Mariah a direct question on Editor Q&A thread.

As to Joss... I don't know. He bended the rules for AtS - introduced many good demons. He bended the rules for comics - rewrote the mythology drastically. You can object that morality is more important than mythology - yes, I agree. But I also think that Joss would do practically anything for the sake of a good story.

We'll see what happens next. Most likely Spike will make a big mistake and realise that soul is essential.

To add on to what Enisy says, Mariah said it was their interpretation after I told them it tweaked the mythology. If it were from Joss she'd have said so. But we were talking about different interpretations of his mythology, not IDW as extending his mythology.

I see. So, we have to prepare to Spike screwing things up without his moral compass...

Or more likely it's what Brian very broadly hinted, if he didn't outright say it: Spike's BS'ing about not needing a soul. He's psyching himself up for battle. The panel immediately after he loses it does have him looking bereft. He could well go after the soul as soon as he can. We'll see. There are only two issues left. And we know Spike will have his soul back by the end.

Yes, the arc was supervised by Joss.

PERMANENTLY?!

No. In Q&As Allie told inequivocally that Spike is souled in his season 8 scenes.

And do we get to see this destroy Drusilla who should not be able to handle this?

We'll find out about Dru's reaction in the next issue.

Why such a freaking HUGE change in canon?

Time will tell if it's just a disposable twist or a set-up for season nine.
