I know that it's not good to project too much of a RL experience onto the reading of The Buffyverse, but I have always felt that the only reason that the series had such devoted fans while it aired, and now all these years later is because it did reflect RL and forced the viewers to ask all the hard questions. Individuals of course interpreted the series with their own life experiences, but it also made one go outside of the "comfort zone."

With this now clear message that Angel/Twangel will indeed now have a justification for "character clean-up" - I can't help but go to the most basic issue that will make me lose so much respect and love for this great series. And I may be wrong in applying this to the actions of Angel/Twangel, but what would happen if a child or anyone was killed by a drunken driver? That driver made the choice to drink, do we say that he is not responsible because he lost control of his body and mind from the alcohol in his body? I feel like this is what I am being asked to do - that I am suppose to forgive and forget all the death and destruction because Angel/Angelus was drunk and he was not in control of himself.

Did I miss the part where Angel/Angelus never had choice? Has he been controlled from the start? Did not Scott Allie make a point of saying that Buffy and Angel were not being totally controlled by this mysterious force when the went into Cosmic Sex. It seems to me that Buffy made the choice to listen to his sweet words of love and let be happy for once. You don't get to be friggin happy at the expense of someone life or dignity - or at least that is what our social structures tells us, even if we see more every day that those social rules are dying away.

There will be some fundamental passing away of The Buffyverse for many fans with Season 8 and what has been done with the character of Angel/Angelus and Buffy.

Well, as far as i see it - Buffy is merely shown in a rather non-flattering light. (Yes, she did boink a villain, but that in and off itself is hardly a crime.)

Angel on the other hand....
