Schadenfreude proves unruly.

It's interesting how skaters I never liked all that much (Sasha Cohen, Elvis Stojko) have jumped on the Plushenko train, while skaters I have more love and respect for are saying some smart things in defense of Lysacek. Timmy Goebel, I am sorry I rooted against you in '02, you were totally robbed at 2000 Nats, you are fabulous at explaining why Evan won. And the unjustly forgotten Dan Hollander is very good with the metaphors.

Like most skating fans, I'm shaken by the news that Joannie Rochette's mother, who had just arrived in Vancouver to see Rochette skate, died suddenly. It's going to be a really somber ladies' competition, and rightly so. I wasn't rooting for Rochette before, but now I hope she's extra inspired and extra strong out there.

Ugh, Domnina and Shabalin's OD is still so offensive, I can't even. The most offensive thing is that they beat Faiella and Scali, who were fabulous. Will Fede and Massi be the Johnny Weir of ice dance? It would fit.

Glad to see Meryl and Charlie and Tessa and Scott pull ahead, although on the basis of their performances, the good old home team advantage is still in play. Dom/Shabs and Tanith and Ben basically tied in the OD; wonder if positions will shift after the free dance.

...Or maybe everyone will fall on their face and it'll be gold for Italy. You never know.
