1. I have finally possibly found a way into the Tanith/Oksana fic. Yeah, I know I've been saying that a lot, but
musesfool wrote a thing about throwing parts of stories away and moving them around and starting over and the difficulty of telling the story you want to tell sometimes. And it helped. I mean, the two of us have notably different processes and kinks as writers, but it's useful to see those processes laid out clearly by others.
2. Hi I have a new icon. And at least one request for
yuletide.
3. I watched a couple of movies over the weekend. The History Boys was oddly paced because it is hard to adapt from stage to screen. And
a film that presents several queer men, all of whom are teachers and all of whom struggle with attractions to male students is awesome, but since none of the other characters struggle with these attractions, the film could be misread as saying that this is a uniquely gay male problem. Years of inappropriate conversations in the grad lounge suggest that this is everyone's problem. But other than that, it was a film with really moving performances and convincing relationships and a neat commentary on the school-drama mythos.
3b. The other movie I watched was
The O Tapes, and this was definitely a case of I watch crap so you don't have to. Like, it is good to talk about women's sexuality, but do we really need to interview Betty "Your Sexual Pleasure Doesn't Fit My Theory" Dodson? Do we need the ear-bleeding soundtrack of '90s-sounding womynfolk? And really, you're not liberating anybody by congratulating yourself for talking about the clitoris. This would have been a groundbreaking film 15 years ago, but not so much anymore.
4. Hi, Canada,
your ice skaters are adorable! I cannot decide which is more awesome: Shawn Sawyer's chartreuse leotard or Chris Mabee's black vest over magenta t-shirt. Clearly, the answer is that Jeff Buttle is still stealing my clothes. In conclusion, Mira Leung is hot all of a sudden.
