I made lasagna tonight, and in the process made three of my friends hate me for living so far away. Apparently I make things sound yummy without really trying.

The following is totally annavtree's fault:

This is not the master recipe, but the version I made tonight, because I had broccoli but no mushrooms.

1. Cook entire package of lasagna noodles according to directions -- make sure they're the regular dried kind, not the ready-to-bake kind. Cook a 10-oz package of frozen chopped spinach, again according to directions; shock with cold water, drain, and squeeze out as much liquid as you can. Boil one medium-sized bunch of broccoli for about 5 minutes or until soft; drain and dice.

2. Peel and dice 4 cloves of garlic. Peel and dice 1 small onion. Pan-fry those in about a tablespoon of olive oil until the onions are clear. Remove from heat.

3. In a large bowl, combine the entire contents of a 32-ounce tub of ricotta cheese; 2/3 of a cup of grated parmesan cheese; the spinach; the broccoli; the onions and garlic; one egg; and about half a teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, basil, and oregano. Mix until the goo is uniform.

3 1/2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Get out a glass baking dish and make layers in the following way:
- 5 lasagna noodles, slightly overlapping.
- Half of the vegetable-ricotta mixture.
- 5 lasagna noodles, slightly overlapping.
- Half a jar of marinara sauce. (You can make your own marinara sauce if you want, but that's another hour of work and this recipe already takes half the night.)
- Half a bag of pre-shredded mozzarella cheese.
The same things in the same order one more time. You might have a couple of leftover noodles. Do not feed them to the cats, even if they seem to think they want them.

5. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for an hour. Check the lasagna a couple of times to make sure it's not burning or bubbling over. When the hour is up, muster your willpower and let it cool for 15 minutes.

6. Serve with a glass of milk and videos of shirtless Frenchmen.

Oh, and also? I posted the masterlist for the mini-ficathon I ran a while ago. If you have a story, comment there (not here) with a link. Even if you don't, go read the stories, they rock.
