This is a drive-by post to say that if you have not seen the BBC show Merlin, you are seriously missing out. I've watched the whole 1st season and about half of the 2nd season in the last 10 days, and I can't get enough of it. Season 1 is streaming on Netflix, if you care to watch ( Read more... )

Merlinnnn! ♥

It doesn't always have the best plots but I really do feel the second season was a huge improvement over the first. Plus it's always fun to watch. :D

That's kind of what I meant when I said some episodes were formulaic. There's some evil magical thing attacking Camelot, Merlin wants to stop it with magic, Gaius says no, but Merlin does it anyway as long as no one finds out it was him.

Honestly the first episode that really jumped out at me as being different and exciting was To Kill a King. I loved that episode! The second season is definitely better than the first.

To Kill a King is really awesome yeah. I also really loved the one about Merlin's village (I am bad with titles, oops!) and the unicorn one.

I liked those ones too. I thought the unicorn one was a little predictable, but still very good. I also liked Excalibur a lot.

It was a bit but I liked how it portrayed Arthur a lot.

I don't think I was wowed by Excalibur, but I can't wait for you to get to 2.7, 2.8 and 2.12. I LOVED those.

I just finished watching 2.07 and 2.08 now! Oh my goodness. "Sins of the Father" almost made me cry. Bradley James is an absolutely incredible actor. "The Witchfinder" broke my heart, too, the way Uther treated Gaius. I gotta admit, I'm excited for the next one, "Lady of the Lake." But for now, I must sleep. :(

Oh yeah, quickly about Excalibur... I think there were just a couple of things in particular that I liked; it wasn't so much the episode as a whole. I'm thinking mainly of the scene where Merlin helps Uther on with his armor before the fight. It was a subtle, quiet scene, but it was very well done and showed a lot of Uther's true character. I also liked the start of the tension between Merlin and the dragon, since they were all BFFs at the beginning of the show and now they only help each other when it will serve their own needs. I like the way that relationship has changed.

I think you'll probably like 2.12 too haha. :D
