Well, it's Friday night. Yay weekend. The first week of school is over. Nine more until finals, then spring break, then one more quarter, then GRADUATION!
4 upper division classes and 1 lower division class is intense, guys. I've resolved myself to the fact that I can have no life on Wednesdays, since I have four classes on Thursdays (and Tuesdays, but I have the weekend before to to the work for that class) that each require copious amounts of reading. But things are going pretty well so far. Breakdown of classes:
African American Lit: It's fine. I'm not terribly interested in the subject matter, and I've taken the class before. (I failed it, so I'm retaking it.) The worst part, I think, is the discussion section. I've never been a huge fan of discussion sections for Lit classes. TAs can be obnoxious and students can be pompous. But it's worse being a senior in a class full of wide-eyed, eager, naive freshman and sophomore. There are two other seniors in my section, though, which is nice. At least I'm not alone in my cynicism.
Greek: I'm so excited for this class. We're studying the New Testament this quarter, reading Paul's letter to the Romans. We'll do one of the letters to the Corinthians if we have time, but at the rate we're going, we won't. We only read four verses in an hour and a half class yesterday. But it's still really cool to read it in Greek.
Chaucer: I still don't know how I feel about this class. The reading is in Middle English, which is a bit obnoxious and tedious. I can only read for about 20-30 minutes at a time before my eyes begin to glaze over and I can't translate any longer. But at the same time, I enjoy the lectures. And I need the class in order to graduate, so I'll just have to grin and bear the readings and I'll be okay.
Animals and People: I'm really enjoying this class! We're looking at the history of the relationship between animals and people, focusing on the 18th century. It's a literature class, but it's a little more history-based. I love the lecturer, though, and the material is fascinating, so it's a good class. We have to do a presentation later on, and I think I'm going to talk about how animals function in children's literature. Because I love animal characters.
Victorian Poetry: I love this class. The professor is awesome and hilarious, and I'm really excited to start reading the poems for the class. This week has been introductory, which is a bit tedious, but still fun. She's just really great, so I'm excited to be in the class.
Annnnnnnnnd, that's all she wrote.
How are you guys? Any fun, happy plans for the weekend?
