This month, I have an essay published in Scribbulus over at The Leaky Cauldron. It's about Neville Longbottom. (Surprise, surprise.) Here's the abstract (summary):
I will be the first to admit that for the last two years, ever since I first read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I have been waiting and waiting for Neville Longbottom to have a final showdown with Bellatrix Lestrange. However, I recently came to the realization that, as poetically just as it would have been, it is not in Neville’s nature to seek his own ends, in this case revenge for his parents. Throughout the series, Neville is selflessly brave; he thinks of the good of others above his own desires. He is never out for himself but chooses to act in ways that benefit those around him.
