My friend Chelsea and I were going to watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers tonight, but Blockbuster didn't have it. Boo. Instead, we watched Flashdance and Footloose back-to-back. Hooray for impromptu 80s night!!
Flashdance is an awkward movie. The ending is so weird I actually said out loud, "So you wanna end your movie like, huh? Okay, get bent!" (That's a MST3K quote for those who don't know. Also, anyone know what episode that's from?) There's also some weird dancing, but some of it is pretty good. It's just... yeah... 18-year-old exotic dancer/welder dating and sleeping with her 35-40-year-old boss?! AWKWARD!
Gotta love Footloose, though. I did that show my senior year of high school (the musical version). I was Ren's (Kevin Bacon) mom. Such fun.
SO! The real point of the post is this... we now want to host an 80s dance party in the near future. We need ideas for costumes, music, moves to play on mute all night for ambiance, food, games maybe... anything 80s that you guys love. Honestly, I only know of the stereotypical 80s stuff because I wasn't alive for half of that decade. For those of you who were, what do you think? Anything that was totally awesome about the 80s that most people my age have forgotten about?
