Hey, Misti, totally off-topic, have you ever done sprite art/animation? It looks like you've got Photoshop down cold, which would be a big help.
Reason I ask is I'm working a gig where we could use some more sprite artists. Pay is reasonable (yes there is pay!) and deadlines right now are "sometime this year plz!" I can forward your contact information to the people-in-charge if you're interested.
If I have, I didn't know that that's what it was called. LOL!
Googling the term, I can say that I've *edited* a few sprites a few times, just because I wanted to change the colors, or remove an accessory or something like that, but I haven't actually created them myself. I'm really not comfortable in my create-an-image-from-scratch abilities, but I'm becoming more comfortable with altering things that already exist. So if you're looking for someone who can alter existing images, or if I can have some bases to kind of fiddle around with, I definitely think it's something I can learn to do... and I'd love to have a reason to learn how to manipulate images a little more subtle-y.
Right now, we're creating a ton of sprites from scratch. There are a few sprites already done, but I've had to spend time manipulating them to animate them. We're definitely looking for folks who can create them from scratch and animate them. (Sizes are 65x65 pixels, 75x75 pixels, 150x150 pixels, and then even larger for boss monsters. So, smaller than what you recolored, by and large.)
So I don't want to tell you, "no, that's not what we need," but right now, it isn't. /: We do need folks to make them from scratch. There is concept art for the sprites, but not sprite-style art -- I'm going to be doing some of that too, over the next couple weeks, since we're in the process of tearing the house apart and I don't expect to have much computer access.
If you change your mind, try whipping up a few basic sprites of just anything and let me know -- the guys will want to see your skills. (:
Come to think of it, though, if you're comfortable with editing sprites, you might be able to take on some of the animation stuff. That would involve taking the base sprites, altering them somewhat so that they look like they've moved, and then use the Animation window so that you can test-run the animation (like removing/adding accessories, but a little more complex -- you use multiple layers and the animation is based on which layers are visible or not). Then you put together a sprite sheet. I can point you at the sprite sheet tool I use, if/when we get that far -- it's super simple.
Yep, just like that, only you'd be moving pixels around. Here's an (unfinished) one that I was doing yesterday -- I have added some sprites to make it smoother, and I still need to work on the feet.
I haven't figured out how to do it in Photoshop (I mean, I know how to work with layers and hide them and all that... do that all the time... I'm just not sure how to create a single image that runs through the different layers. And, honestly, the version of Photoshop that I have at home is an OLD version, so it may not even have the option. LOL! I did buy a new version of Elements, though... I just haven't done much with it, since I'm so used to the layout of my old version.
ImageReady looks the same as PhotoShop (and they're connected together so I can import an image from one to the other) but it gives you a window for "Slices", which is basically just each frame of the animation. My knowledge is extremely basic and is all self-taught (for both IR and PS) so I have no idea what the correct terminology is. :)
That definitely looks like something that would be doable though... not necessarily *difficult* just tedious and time-consuming. :)
Actually, now that I think of it, it wasn't even that long... I opened Photoshop as I put in tonight's Vampire Diaries to watch, and it's not over yet... so it's only a half hour or so. :) It was seriously just a rough drawn thing to see if I could make it work. :)
moryssa at hotmail is my main email, so that's probably best.
Like I said, I don't really feel that I have any drawing skills of my own, but I think I could take the existing image and shift pixels around. And it sounds like fun! :D
Awesome. (: I will send them an email and let them know. They'll probably ask for a portfolio just to see what you can do, just so you're aware. If you've got a DeviantArt account or something similar, that'll work. (:
I *DO* have a devart account... but I haven't actually put anything there (just use it for watching others). I guess I should do that, huh? I'll put that on my list to work on this weekend. :)
Ok, I added some stuff to DevArt. I mostly just have graphics and icons and things like that... but I already have lots of "likes", so I'm happy. :D And I put Clyde over there, too. X-D
