I never quite made it to that "real update", did I? Sorry 'bout that. :)

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. I've honestly been surprised by the number of people posting on here and on the different fandom message boards... I don't think I've ever had so many people specifically wish me a happy birthday. It was very cool and kept a smile on my face all day long, so thank you, all of you. :)

The main celebration for my birthday was last night-- datahawk and I went to see Shawn Mullins at The Black Orchid downtown. (Ok, Lara says it's not downtown... and I guess technically, it's not downtown. It's a heck of a lot closer to downtown than Kenosha, WI, is, though. :p To me, if you can get there by one of the El's, then it's "downtown". But I digress...) The place was a cute little place. The lady on the phone had told me that they had 300 tickets available, and it was at least close to a sell-out, if not complete. The Black Orchid is a supper club, and has what they call "Cabaret seating"... basically, you sit at a table that holds about 12-15 people, regardless of how many are in your group. Lara and I ended up at the end of one of the tables about halfway back, and I had a perfect view of the stage, so I had no complaints. :)

Shawn is one of the artists that I've known *of* for quite a while. I loved "Lullaby" when I first heard it, and his song "Beautiful Wreck" is one of my favorites on the Rock Boak Sampler CD that Sixthman sent us before the cruise. I bought his new cd when it came out in mid-February, and I absolutely LOVE several of the songs on there. I like the whole CD, but certain ones are by far my favorites... and he played all but one of those faves in the show last night. There is just something about his voice that gives me chills. He certainly doesn't *look* like a person who would have the voice he does. In fact, I realized last night that he reminds me a LOT of John Malkovich (which explains why I'm attracted to him, considering I think John Malkovich is hot as hell). As cute as I think he is, though, it's truly his music that I love. There were several times last night when I realized that I was sitting there with my eyes closed, just letting the sound wash over me. It's very soothing.

I talked to him after the show (he remembered me from the cruise! :D) and asked if was going to be on next year's Boat, but he said he didn't know yet. I got the impression that he hasn't been asked, and he isn't expecting to be asked back until 2008. :( This makes me very sad. :( But, he signed my CD booklet and then also autographed a picture of the two of us from The Rock Boat, and wrote on the picture "Happy happy birthday!" so my birthday was already complete before it even started. LOL!

I didn't have the money at the time we ordered them for the ticket to the show, so Lara paid for the tickets... I don't know if it was meant to be a gift or not, but in the exhaustion-induced haze after the show, I forgot to ask if you needed me to write you a check... let me know if you do. :)

seimaisin gave me a gift certificate for Amazon.com... Joe and Brian may be taking me out to dinner tonight to continue celebrating... my friends are awesome. :)

Love you all! :)

birthday
