The Americans

I have to laugh when I see people on TWoP posting with great confidence that in 1981 women didn't have long, straight hair (my mother did - her horrid eighties perm didn't come until a couple of years later) or that men wouldn't have taken their daughters to buy shoes (my father did sometimes, even though my mother was a housewife at the time). I was just a child in that year, several years younger than the show-daughter Paige, but I remember these things vividly. Oh, I also saw someone scoff at the idea of the name Paige in 1981, but it was hardly unheard of then either. I went to school with a girl named that. So, pffft!

Is anyone else watching The Americans? I never watched Felicity and was only familiar with Keri Russell in a general, pop-cultural way, and I don't recall seeing Matthew Rhys, the guy who plays Philip, in anything before this, but I'd say the two of them are knocking it out of the park in this show. Also, Annet Mahendru, who plays Nina, is drop-dead gorgeous (not to mention fluent in Russian), but she should never let the person who plucks her eyebrows anywhere near them ever again.
