Finished Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse.
SO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ADORE JAINA SOLO, YEAH?
THAT'S MASTER JAINA SOLO TO YOU.
MY GIRL IS A JEDI MASTER NOW. NAMED ONE IN THE MIDDLE OF BATTLE. VERY FITTING FOR THE SWORD OF THE JEDI.
AND A MEMBER OF THE JEDI COUNCIL!
(IN ADDITION TO HER USUAL SKYWALKERY WARRIOR/PILOT BADASSERY, ALL OF WHICH SHE ACCOMPLISHES WHILE BEING EVEN TINIER THAN LEIA.)
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
JAG FEL HAS AT LONG, LONG, LONG LAST BECOME MR. JAINA SOLO. YES, AT THE END SHE MAKES AN HONEST MAN OF HIM.
PILOT WEDDING!
A few more things:
• So Jag's not Head of State of the Empire anymore by the end, and he's thrilled about it. Poor bastard, as because of Legacy we all know it won't last, and he'll be back and this time as Emperor instead of Head of State. Can't wait for that story to be told! Especially can't wait for Han's certain-to-be-hilarious reaction, since his daughter is going to end up raising little Imperials after all.
• We get a lot more info about the Father, Daughter, and Son from The Clone Wars's Mortis trilogy episodes, and Abeloth's connection to them. Remember Anakin Skywalker's refusal to take the dying Father's place in the Mortis trilogy? That came back to bite the galaxy on the ass in a big way. Really good stuff there, if you enjoyed Mortis as much as I did, and clearly there's more to come in future novels.
• We get confirmation that the Dark Man on the throne in Jacen's and Luke's visions has been Darth Krayt all along (no huge surprise, unlike the fact that he actually shows up in Apocalypse), but that was not why Jacen became Darth Caedus. It was seeing his daughter Allana standing next to the Dark Man that did it. Caedus changed the future all right - or at least delayed it - but unwittingly freed Abeloth in the process.
• Thanks to the irredeemably Sithy Vestara Khai (poor Ben!), the Sith discover that "Amelia Solo" is actually Tenel Ka's heir Allana, the Jedi Queen who is supposed to sit on the Throne of Balance, so Allana comes out of hiding at the end. Can openly spend time with her mother and will finally be starting her Jedi training. Han and Leia were pretty much the most incompetent guardians ever, so I think we can all agree this is for the best.
• Coruscant took a good pasting again in Apocalypse, but considering how fast the reset button was hit after the Vong were defeated, we'll probably hear little more about it. What's a few volcanoes and thousands of Sith terrorist attacks in comparison to the full Vongforming it took in the New Jedi Order?
• Some of the Lost Tribe Sith are still out there, and thanks to the One Sith's Darth Krayt, the Jedi - and newly minted Sith Lord Vestara Khai - are now aware that there are other Sith skulking in the shadows. MORE BOOKS PLZ!
