Five things I've been up to instead of LJ

1) Starting the switch from Quicken (Fie upon you, Intuit! Fie, I say!) to iBank so I can upgrade to OS X Lion. Quicken and Photoshop were the last two PPC programs I needed to replace; thankfully, the current version of PS works in Lion, so I just need to install it now that H has obtained it for me. A little investigation proved that Quicken Essentials for Mac is, like the Twilight franchise and Iron Man 2, just as bad as everyone says, so I'm switching from my ancient Quicken 2003 to iBank 4 (which is made by a small Vermont company, so even better).

2) Finally going to a MAC store. I guess I'm really a woman now or something? A nice but stripperifically made-up (complete with false eyelashes in the daytime o_O) lady took one look at me and picked the perfect foundation color. I swear, it was like magic, because I have a hard-to-match skin tone (quite pale, slight yellow undertone; most foundations are too dark and/or too peach or yellow - yellow undertone doesn't mean that one's foundation should be jaundice-colored, FFS!). So I ended up with Studio Fix Fluid foundation in NC15 and Select Moisturecover concealer in NW15, and they look awesome. My only concern is that they might be a bit too dark by the end of the winter, when I'm at my palest, and they're the lightest colors in those products; I may have to try the new Matchmaster foundation at that point, since its colors are different from the standard MAC colors and include lighter options than NC15. Any foundation advice will be much appreciated, as I usually have just worn sunscreen, a dab or two of concealer, powder or powder foundation, mascara when I remember, and lip balm, which is about as much as anyone wears here unless they're selling cosmetics or going to prom.

3) Winning NaNoWriMo. Six years. Six wins. This year's novel is the most original fiction I have ever written in my life. I'm keeping the characters, but in the rewrite I need to turn up the worldbuilding (mostly handwaved during November) to eleven and make some major plot alterations. Can't decide if I should keep the aliens or not. (I know I have at least a couple of other NaNoWriMo 2011 winners on my LJ flist, so congratulations!)

4) Reading piles and piles and piles of fic for The Big Bang Theory (Sheldon/Penny and gen) and Thor (Darcy/Loki and Sif/Loki), and now that AO3 is no longer flinging 502 errors at me every ten seconds, I am one happy fangirl.

5) Not catching up on TV. After the November from hell, I'm two to five episodes behind on most of the shows I watch, especially the serious-business shows to which one must pay attention, such as Homeland and Sons of Anarchy.
