Pumpkin Gingerbread Muffins with Orange Glaze: I baked a couple of dozen for H to take to work for the traditional Halloween potluck lunch. Very tender and cakelike, so I'd call them cupcakes rather than muffins, and closer to a pumpkin spice cake than a traditional gingerbread. The ginger is only in the form of minced crystallized ginger, and just a couple tablespoons of molasses go into the batter, so the flavors of the other spices and the pumpkin are able to shine through. Don't skip the glaze!
Since I have several pie pumpkins from my CSA, instead of the 15-ounce can of pumpkin called for in the recipe, I used fresh pumpkin puree, made via
this method and (very important!) allowed to drain overnight in the refrigerator first.

3) NANOWRIMO IS COMING. After more than two years in-universe since the start of 2009's book one, everyone's favorite tall, dark Sith-apprentice-turned-Jedi is finally going to get laid in book two - not that it's going to solve everything. I torture because I love!
4) A new installment in
queenofthorns's
Five Times Kara Thrace Prayed to Apollo (and One Time She Didn't), although I have not yet had a chance to read it.
5) Drinking tea to the accompaniment of the sound of rain falling on a metal roof.
