So on our second day we were driving around and H (who has no German at all*) suddenly asked me, "Why does every town have a street called Einbahnstraße? And why is the Einbahnstraße so important that there are all these signs with arrows pointing to it?"
When I was finally able to stop laughing, I explained that it means one-way street.
No, we weren't headed the wrong way down a one-way street at the time. Thankfully.
*I have just a little bit, which was more useful for reading things (such as road signs!) than talking, since ninety-five percent of the time I'd say a couple of words and the German person would hear my accent and immediately start speaking decent-to-good English. Sigh.
