Recipe from Hell: Polynesian Salad

It's been a while since I bestowed a recipe from hell upon you, dear flist, but I spied Joys of Jell-O (1963) on my vintage cookbook shelf and felt inspired. As you might imagine, there were many excellent candidates, but in the end I just had to go with this recipe. Don't all thank me at once!

That recipe looks sadly familiar. I'm pretty sure I ate something sort of like this at some point in my childhood!

Yikes! It was a very popular cookbook, so such things must have been inflicted on millions of defenseless children.

I remember all the Kraft-sponsored holiday specials showing up on TV with the recipes included. "Don't forget to top that with mini-marshmallows!" Bleargh!

There were lots of Jell-O recipes that included them, because apparently Jell-O isn't sweet enough by itself.

The only thing I want topped with mini marshmallows is cocoa.

As long as you pour in a liberal dose of booze, you can top my cocoa with mini marshmallows. But otherwise I am permanently traumatized by them as a result of growing up in the 60s.
