Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Well, I finished it.

HP isn't one of my fandoms, so the fact that I found the book extremely disappointing isn't earth shattering (unlike, say, if last night's BSG season premiere had been equally mediocre). It was dreary and mostly boring. There were few of the laugh-out-loud moments I enjoyed so much in the previous books, and I felt a lot more distant from the main characters than I have in the past. I had a hard time caring about them and what would happen to them, which is never a good thing in a novel.

I didn't really care that Dumbledore died, but Snape turning out to be (apparently) evil after all annoyed me. He has been one of my favorite characters all along. On the other hand, by the end of the book I was considering rooting for Voldemort and the Death Eaters, so maybe that's not so bad after all.

I don't care about ships in HP, so all that was pretty much wasted on me. (I guess if I really had to pick a ship, I'd like to see Harry/Hermione, but it has long been obvious that it isn't in the cards. *shrug*)

In conclusion, those are a few hours I'll never get back.

books, harry potter
