Fanfic (all fandoms)
So many first sentences that go something like "[Character A] was [Emotion Y]" or "[Character B] remembered when [Character C] did [Action Z]." The flatness saps my very will to live, let alone continue reading.
I can usually tell from the first sentence of a fic whether or not I'm going to keep reading, and just about always by the end of the first two or three sentences.
