Please excuse me while I bitch and moan about the very important topic of my hair.
See, the place I get my hair done burned down a few weeks ago (in an exciting way that involved exploding propane tanks and the front door being blown about sixty feet away), so I had to try someplace new. My roots couldn't wait any longer.
I should have known better than to go to an Aveda salon, because the Aveda color sucks just as much as I remember (which is why my usual stylist switched from Aveda to Redken and Goldwell a few years ago). Ugh. I am so unhappy with how it turned out. The only thing I like about Aveda color is that it smells better than other brands. The Aveda reds are much less intense than the Redken, and if history is any guide the color will fade much faster, too.
The inferior brand of color issue was exacerbated by a stylist who was very nice but who apparently didn't listen to me AT ALL about the color. I was very clear about NO ORANGE. Seriously, I don't want an orangey red. Red tends to fade orangey anyway, and the last thing I want to do is start out orange. My burned-down (well, not her, but her shop) stylist uses a true red base with a touch of brown, which yields a lovely, rich dark red - neither too burgundy nor too orange.
What did the new person give me? A dull, orangey sort of red. (You know, exactly what I told her I didn't want!) Gah! I mean, it's not like you'd think it looked awful if you saw me walking down the street, but it's nowhere the dark, rich red I like it to be.
I don't think I'll be going back there (I made another appointment before I got a really good look at my hair in natural light, which I need to cancel), so I must find a different salon that uses Redken or Goldwell color. At least the cut she gave me seems okay, although the true test is what it looks like after I wash it.
I drove all the way to Burlington afterward so I could buy a box of demipermanent color in a richer, truer red, which I'll leave on for just a few minutes to take the edge off the orange. (Something I've done before with great success, back in my previous Aveda-color days.)
SO CRANKY.
