I was just settling in for a nice, long bout of NaNo writing this afternoon when I started feeling a few ominous twinges of pain in my right hand/wrist. Oh, joy. This also happened during NaNoWriMo 2005, I remember.
So H is bringing home a separate keyboard for me, which will be more ergonomically correct than the one on my MacBook Pro, and I have added a seat cushion and footrest to my seating situation, plus I'm going to take an Aleve every eight hours and I'm icing my hand twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off.
I'm hunt-and-peck typing with my left hand while I ice the right, rather than my usual fairly fast touch-typing. SO SLOW. I know several people who ignored this sort of pain until they had done permanent damage to their hands and needed surgery and rehab, though, and I'm not letting that happen to me.
I must type with both hands when I'm doing the NaNo writing, because there's no way I can do that sort of writing at this one-handed snail's pace. That'll have to be during the twenty-minute off-ice intervals.
I'm just taking a paper notebook with me when I go to Buffalo this weekend - at least writing longhand is a different sort of hand motion. Of course, all that will need to be typed in when I get home.
Feh!
