Lehigh Valley!

Rainy, 68-75°F. Early Saturday morning, I headed over to Lehigh Valley, specifically Perkins Restaurant in Bethlehem, to attend the LVGC Breakfast in the Valley III geocaching event. I haven't been to Lehigh Valley in 2 years and to a Lehigh Valley geocaching event in at least 3 years. Still, there was familiarity because we've met at other geocaching events in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. This wasn't a big event, which was fortunate, because the party room at Perkins isn't very big. I had potato pancakes with bacon.

After breakfast, we went as a group of 7 to find a series of geocaches on the Ironton Rail Trail in Coplay. That was a lot of fun, even though we weren't the most efficient group. Everyone else had to leave for various appointments at 2pm but I continued geocaching on the IRT and generally around Coplay and Northampton. Then I went to Nazareth and did the "Scooby's Streak By Bushkill Creek" series of geocaches. This is another power trail. The "streak" geocaches are all roadside, all hidden the same way, and mostly placed at 0.1-mile intervals. I found the most efficient way to proceed was to keep my automotive GPS in offroad mode and showing the distance/speed screen. I pulled over when the distance got to around 150 feet and stopped the car when it got to 25 feet. There were some caches in the series where I didn't stop at quite the correct spot but generally, stopping at that distance ensured that the cache was just a bit in front of the car so I could find it quickly.

Dinner was at the Easton Long John Silver's, an old familiar place. I had a fish combo. I noticed that they've improved the recipe for the fries. It's a bit more like Hardee's now. However, the place isn't the same any more since the cashier I knew moved to Lancaster. After dinner, I did a few more geocaches at night, bringing the total for the day to 56 finds!
