Winnie has a Death Wish.

For those of you new to the party, Winnie is my character out at Bay Area Renaissance Festival. Winifred Baskerville, the Royal Hunt Mistress. She's Scottish, tomboyish, foolhardy, and loyal as a mastiff to the King and Queen. She's gotten smarter since I've started playing her, but she's still not the brightest crayon in the box and even more stubborn than I am (and that says a lot).

She hasn't been talking to me much thus far this year; I think she's miffed that I'm not getting her a new dress like I planned. That she was looking forward to it surprises me somewhat, as she's still not terribly used/resigned to wearing court gowns and until now hasn't really cared about looking pretty.

Well, this morning she "spoke" to me... and I have an impending sense of doom. Winnie told me that she wants the wooden knife Hector Montoya (R's character, bodyguard to the Baron Blackheath) keeps in his boot. She plans on trying to steal it. I don't know why she wants the damn thing, but she does. Probably the challenge of getting it away from him.

See, R is currently moonlighting as a bodyguard in real life, and has mad skillz (I can't believe I just wrote that...) with weapons, as in he and his brother give knife fighting workshops to the Orlando Police Department every 6 months or so. I know there's a difference between playing out at festival and being a bodyguard in real life, but that doesn't help my paranoia in this. Plus there's the whole propriety issue...

I'm trying to talk her out of it, but I don't think that's going to happen. Once Winnie gets an idea in her head, she doesn't let it go. It actually could be a fun bit in the lanes, and really get patrons involved. I mean, she's gonna need someone to distract him while she goes for the knife, and really, she'll be in a big orange dress. Sneaking up on anyone while wearing a big orange dress is... actually possible. I've done it. I've already told R about her plan, so I just have to see what he thinks about it and work out the details.

It's going to be an interesting season.

big orange dress, death wishes are the best kind, barf 2010, winnie
