Heather Alexander is an awesome singer/songwriter who moves in the peculiar genre folk/new age/fantasy. Often funny lyrics, great guitar.
Cake - Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle
Never forget about the cake! Witty, sarcastic lyrics, almost jazzy rhythm. This is only one of many songs I love by these guys.
Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer - Red (elegy)
These two and their music will always hold a special place in my music collection. Country/folk/new age. Calm, melodic music. Don't listen to this song if you're down, because it's sure to make you sink deeper.
Missy Higgins - The River
Singer/songwriter from Australia. Amazing talent. She writes mostly of love, but this is one glaring exception. Once again, don't listen to this if you're down.
Tori Amos - Real men
This is a cover, but it's a good one, and who can resist the combination of Tori Amos and great lyrics?
