No more bears after friday night thankfully Saturday morning up and out to pilates. Then home to make desserts for a family dinner at my folks place this included my sister's family in for their annual trip from Boston. My brother and his wife and my cousins and aunt.
No suprise, blithescribe's flourless chocolate cake was incredible my fruit tart unfortunately had a consistency problem and yes blithescribe did mock me for having a failed custard.
Dinner was fabulous. My moms lasagne recipe is still probably my favorite anywhere. We sat around talking until late. Sunday morning K and I woke up early got a couple things done around the house and the headed to Disneyland. The park was a zoo but we had fun including going on pirates of the carribbean while 90% of the animatronics were out, pirates and village people hunched forward talking and singing with their eyes and fingers twitching. That was pretty much the end of our time at that park then we went across the plaza to DCA to enjoy the rides and wander around. For dinner I had been craving the fried mozzarella that naples ristorante used to make, it was fresh mozzarella fried in a light batter. So we went there; the caprese is now chunks of tomatoe and a hunk of cheese. The most adventurous pizza on the menu is a sausage and pepper, oh and the mozzarella is now sticks like you get at most restraunts fortunately K said let's go someplace else. We wound up at Catal and had a lovely meal including incredible appetizers. Who thinks of putting pine nuts in a pressure cooker? The menu said pine nut "rissoto" K and I each figured it would be a rissoto with nuts no it was pine nuts cooked to the consistency of pearl barley that was incredible, the fact that there was a piece of slow roasted pork belly on top of it with roasted grapes and spicy greens just added to the beauty. A french 75 in a pint glass charged as a beefeater single I'm okay with that.
A great birthday spent with my wife.
