life at 39 cents a yard in the no. 2  lane

This weekend, read, Yesterday was fantastic. There is nothing like it being 72 degrees in December and for that I will always have Los Angeles.  My relationship with the city and region is pragmatic at best, strained at worst. It can be said that I spent half of my childhood there, not entirely true but I spent so much time with my family there that it is understandable. But the concept of living there does not appeal to me, even if it becomes a necessity.
At any rate, the costume exhibit was wonderful, I was slightly dissapointed that it was predominantly costumes from Ep 1-3 and not the original Star wars trilogy, but none the less the section of just Amidala's costumes was breathtaking even if I am not that interested in them. Plus we got TONS of super high res pictures for costuming. After the exhibit we decided to go find all the fabric stores. Hah! So first we found the fashion district, then we found the jewelry district but no fabric district. I was getting aggravated so we headed back to the car with the intent of searching for this mythical place and going to Canter's if we weren;'t successful. But alas, when I spotted the first store I had no idea what I was in for. I wish I had all the money in the world for fabric. 4 square blocks of all fabric and trimming stores. After awhile we headed back to the carwith more ideas the sense. I found this really nice black cotton that had some embroidery around the hem - it was cheap I bought a couple of yards.  The best was all the jacket linings for 39 cents a piece or the signs that said "all fabric outside - $1 a yard" These of course were 60 and 96 inch bolts mind you. It was heaven and I'm broke. Oh well. I know where I am going shopping next time. Mwahahahah.
So after a shitload of walking and drooling we went to Canter's for rugallah and chopped chicken liver. It was very yummy as always. We hung out with chris a bit more and then headed home. I am more motivated then ever to make costume design my profession after seeing what can be done with and to fabric.
