Well, if it's any consolation, it's not going to continue for much longer.

It isn't, particularly.

Topher will be back but I'll return to being damaged. Yay?

[ A sigh and an eyeroll. ]

Thanks for the attempt.

-=No sympathy.=-

You're only damaged if you believe yourself to be. You can still do what you want to do, right? You rose above your adversity, so stop whining about how 'damaged' you are.

Oh no. No no no no. I understand this...moral highroad business of 'you're only as broken as you think' but in REALITY? Broken is broken, damaged is damaged.

This coming from the boy with a metal arm? I don't expect you to get it. No I can't do what I want. I can do what I need but there will always be someone who is better and worse off than I am.

So don't tell me to stop whining, I'll damned well whine if I want to.

Do you have a freaking clue as to how badly I wouldn't mind taking a swim? Or maybe not suffering from frostbite and hypothermia when it snows?

Let me tell you something, sweetheart, it's no walk in the park having metal drilled through your muscle and into your very bones.

You're a little brat.

Pretty sure I'm older than you, normally, so none of this 'sweetheart' stuff.

It sucks. For both of us, yeah, I get that, there's no perfect solution. I'm allowed to whine, once, in the months I've been here.

I'm twenty-four.

So? You're acting your age, as far as I'm concerned. And fine, you can whine all you want, but no one wants to hear about how bad you have it.

Get up, brush yourself off, and put on some big girl panties. Get up and make something of yourself. Make yourself memorable and stop thinking about what you can't do.

It's rude and disrespectful. So stop it.

I don't want to be memorable, I'd appreciate some normalcy. Obviously that's asking for too much, around here.

Start telling yourself that.

Right. So you want to die a bitter old woman with no one to cry at your funeral. Fine by me. And nothing's ever normal. Here or anywhere else.

I've been bitter for years. That's the way I am. Besides, what funeral? I've yet to see one in this world.

Things are normal in some places; or our minds trick us into thinking such wherever we come from.

Yet you're incapable of brainwashing yourself to have that blissfully ignorant, normal life you want.

It's the 'ignorant' part I can't stand.

Well, see, there's your problem right there! If you want a normal life, you have to sacrifice knowledge. Or a good amount as to what happens in a world. After all, 'ignorance is bliss.'

But if you want knowledge, since 'knowledge is power,' then you have to sacrifice that normal, ho-hum everyday existence that you seem to be craving.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. -=but that's what Ed's striving for, anyway.=-
