Dear President Obama

First of all, thank you for reading my livejournal. I know you're very busy and that you have no idea who I am, so I appreciate you taking the time.

This is turning into a very public and very ugly look at just what we're dealing with when it comes to our government. It is becoming a test of all the rhetoric and promises from the democrats over the years of what America would look like if only they were given the level of power they needed to make real change. Right now, in plain sight, there is a battle between the American people who overwhelmingly support a strong public option for healthcare in this country, and the insurance companies who financed you and your friends in the Democratic party.

There are several details that we still don't know. Perhaps things are better than they appear to be. But here's what I have gathered so far. The public option will be paid for by the consumer, just like any other option. There has been little talk about the care provided being any different than what we already have. And there has been no talk about the price. At this point, nobody has said that the public option will be significantly more affordable to the average American than what the insurance companies provide. So what are we getting?

It looks to me like we are getting another insurance company. One that will be run by the government. One that will be more honest and not one that will be profit driven, but nothing more. This is milquetoast. This is just enough change to shut the people up while still insuring that people will be able to profit off of our national sickness. Sadly, it looks like this is the best we can do.

We seem to be looking for a balance between the insurance companies and the will of the people. We seem to be trying to compromise. But this is not a time for compromise. This is a time for change. The battle between the people of this country and those who exploit them should not end in a tie. We put you in power with more leverage than you could possibly ask for because we were tired of the corruption and greed we saw coming out of Washington. It is up to you Mr. President to deliver on the promises your party has made. Simply giving us a seat at the table will not suffice.

This is our country. Start acting like it.
