Just leaving for Paris -- twenty, twenty-five minutes maybe... Actually, I've been up all night. I was down by Goodge Street half the evening -- went down because Port Cargo (on the corner of Chenies Street, right by school) had had this delightful, elaborate table of fancy Christmas yummies in the front window for weeks, and it struck me that a few such delicacies might be a nice thing to bring to Paris with me (in addition to the gifties from me and Mom that I'm already toting). But when I got there the cupboard was bare -- they (and, apparently, everybody) have already taken down their Christmas displays (or at least shoved it all onto messy discount tables). I'll take the discounts... but seriously, people. There were three whole shopping days before Christmas as of this afternoon. What's up with that?? ... Instead, I just got a decorative tin of Scottish shortbread at Mark's & Sparks, and a box of Christmas crackers from Boots (the two most stereotypically English holiday goods I could think of that weren't either mince pies or Christmas pudding, which are just gross. And I've always wanted some real English Christmas crackers, anyway).
This was all on the way home from dropping willie nelson off at Boon's house in Acton -- she was very well behaved all the way there, and she was very enthusiastic about exploring all the new-and-exciting corners of Katie's house... and actually, I think Katie'll be glad to have her company over the next week (housemates gone, all alone for Christmas -- and she had to give her own dear kitty away to a stranger when she left Tasmania, so perhaps wee willie will be a little bundle of Christmas comfort and joy :) On a side note, I felt quite comfortable in Acton. Working class west London, perhaps (instead of the expected ghetto east London) when I move out in June?
Meanwhile, my packing has been extra-meticulous, and legitimately did take me until about 3:30 (as some of you know, I am very, very good at dresses... and I'm taking like every dress in the world with me :). In all seriousness, though -- even if I weren't as revved up for the week ahead as I obviously am -- I couldn't sleep without willie. Pitiful? She's like a living safety blanket! And the house just feels wrong somehow without her in it. I keep reaching for her only to realize she's not there! Awww...
'nuff of that, though -- I AM GOING TO PARIS FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!
