This shirt itches
I was looking for cotton or microfiber
All I found was wool
in size extra small
with buttons all up the back
It stretched to fit me
as a different person fastened each button
and now it clings
as if it were burned on
It corsets my throat
and I'm getting dizzy
The day is sweltering
and I am drenched in sweat
It suffocates my pores
and they are gasping
I cannot peel it off
for it will take my skin with it
Please undo the buttons
and I will sob in gratitude
I shall be free
and you a hero
We will walk together
and feel the sun smile on our backs
as the wind kisses our necks
But you weren't prepared to cover me
and we can't take off this shirt
for I have no other
and I cannot be naked in public
I think it's finished and tweaked to my liking, but I might have to change it at some point.
