Pooped tonight. Left work a little early so I could get everything done I needed to do tonight. It was pretty dead at work today anyhow...got the important stuff done and then I was outta there. Managed to walk the pooch, lift (leg day), and get organized for the trip.
The car was NOT finished this afternoon. The body shop said that it was a two day job, but they didn't realize that the body part wouldn't be in until Friday. Harrumph. This bothered me because they didn't think to call and tell me that the car wouldn't be fixed as promised. The shop closes at 5 and I hadn't heard from them as of 4:15, so I called and found out that the car wouldn't be ready. They couldn't pick up the phone? Feh.
I do have the rental, but I called the rental company just to let them know that I would have the car longer and that I planned to take it out of state...something that was not going to happen when I got the car on Monday. The rental company just said that it was fine, keep the car as long as it's needed. Well, fine.
So, the upside of not driving my own car to Rockville is that the rental a bit more comfortable, seat and foot-wise for a long drive and it has a CD player. My car has only a cassette player (see previous post on my past life as an Amish person). I have a CD stack already picked out for the six hour drive.
I hit the grocery store and the wine shop. You see, the friends I'm visiting for T-day are all old friends from grad school. We all love food and cooking and we made fantastic dinners and had great parties in grad school. Only thing that kept us sane. When we all moved onto to our various post-graduate jobs all over the country, we still managed to get together for Thanksgiving in either Rochester or Maryland. Now, we're all done with our post-docs and have been in our "real jobs" for the past 8 years or so. We've still gotten together, but in different places. It's been a couple of years now since we've done T-day together, and we're all looking forward to it. Our dinner is NOT traditional--never has been which is fine with me--Harry and I like to cook our own turkey dinner by ourselves after the hoopla dies down. This year's T-day dinner revolves around North African food--mostly Moroccan. Friday night is going to be a huge Tapas party.
Anyhow, I hit Wegmans tonight for things so that we won't have to shop on Thursday. I'm also taking some serving dishes, wine, and some cookbooks. I'm also taking several Rochester delicacies that my friends miss. Breads, ravioli from the killer shop up the street, fresh cider and NYS apples from the apple mill that's nearby. The car will be loaded with chow.
Yes, there will be food.
Hope you all have a great holiday wherever you'll be and safe travels!
I'll be back online this weekend.
