The sad part is, some of the people there probably feel zero remorse and some I'm sure even think it's funny or "cool" to have killed someone while trying to buy a widescreen TV.
Shit like this makes me want to move to an uncharted island in the South Pacific and eat my cereal out of hollowed-out coconut shells for the rest of my life.
I don't know, I think people have always been this way (just take a look at Rome under the Julio-Claudians, for instance) It's shocking, now, when it happens, I think, because we expect that we are somehow better than that by this point in history and we're just not.
some are better, some are worse...dreamsailboatNovember 29 2008, 06:00:37 UTC
but there is also rome under marcus aurelius...
though, I do not find this nearly as shocking as the bone thieves who were mass murdering immigrant workers in NY recently, and selling their bones fraudulently to science, some 10,000 before they were caught. or union carbide's 20,000 killed in one night bhophal chemical plant accident, 20 years later, and still no justice there. i think that there is even much worse then this going on here in the usa right now, that will in time be properly exposed and understood, though the understanding only points to greed and irresponsibility...

Oh absolutely there is much worse and on a larger scale, certainly. What amazes me is just the crass consumerism and "me, me, me" of it all, to the point that people will actually trample each other to death for TV sets.
I doubt that, I dunno... anyone with some sense of morality who was present at the time will probably have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
