To the Max

Sarabeth went for her weekly OBGYN appointment yesterday, and though the doctor says she's getting close, she doesn't think that she's quite ready to deliver just yet. But, in all honesty, Max could decide to arrive at ANY TIME.

Such a thought is simultaneously thrilling and terrifying all at once. We're reasonably prepared, though, and I think poor Sarabeth is just ready to have him already and move on to the next phase. It's hard to be 9 months pregnant in the middle of the blistering July heat, especially if you're still at work and have to take the train to Manhattan every day.

Honestly we're both pretty excited, even though the inherent chaos of labor and hospitals and family visits and a new baby is making me a little nervous. Mostly, I just want to meet my son, though I feel like I already know him after 9 months of watching him grow and develop and breakdance in the womb. Though I've already come to think of him as a person in his own right, it'll be nice to have him out and about, and to get to know him face to face soon.

Speaking of the heat, I'm done with this "heat wave" weather. Seriously. It can stop now. My pepper plants seem to like it though, and are producing a never-ending stream of chilies. I've got so many I'm going to have to start drying them.

In other news, I need good books to read. Suggestions please, I'm open to anything. I've been reading a lot of science fiction lately, so I'm in that kind of mood, but other suggestions are certainly welcome. (Greg, I've read most of the stuff on your last "short list" now, so any sci fi you can recommend is appreciated.)
