It's been a while since I wrote about anything other than painting or conventions... at least a month, I think. There haven't been many good things to write about, to be honest - just a lot of running on the spot, trying to keep up with everything.
Work is now perpetually busy, which is good - it means there is some amount of money coming in, and it forces me to put my head down and get things done. The
list keeps growing faster than I'm finishing things, but that's mostly because I'm easily distracted by whatever looks new and shiny - or old and shiny. I've cut back to about five major projects on the desk, so that I can pick up something different as soon as I start losing interest in whatever I'm working on. I've also stopped adding new projects, because there are only so many hours in the day...
aeliel has spent some time at home sick lately - first from a torn tendon, and then from a severe allergic reaction to the sportstape that the podiatrist strapped her foot with... two weeks after taking it off, there are still new layers of blisters coming up through the old ones. We have all sorts of anti-inflammatory pills, cortisone creams and antihistamines floating around the living room now, but they seem to be having a pretty minimal impact. Salt water seems to be helping the most (osmosis at work), but it looks like the allergy will take a while longer to clear.
Still, it's been nice having some company during the day. I've moved half my work desk downstairs to make the most of it, although I can only work during daylight now - our house has no ceiling lights (we have switches for them, but no fittings anywhere...) and desklamps just don't give enough light to wield a craftknife by.
I really like living in North Melbourne, despite the angry drunks downstairs and the broken glass in the park... I think my favourite part of this place is the people in it. There's something nice about being able to walk around the corner and bump into my cousin and her new baby, or seeing
miss_rynn while on my way home from training. It's the little bits of serendipity that make the rest of the day worthwhile.
And tea, of course. I'm sure the world would be a much more stressful place without my stockpile of green tea. Speaking of which, the kettle's just boiled... time to grab a mug and head back upstairs.
