Since this is a new year and I've watched deense and others keep track of what their reading as part of 100books365days and 50bookchallenge, I thought I would give this a shot. I'm an English major and many of the books I read are for school. This is the case with the first:

Book #1 - The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

I was not eager to read this novel and even less thrilled when I had to go to the young peoples section of the library to find it. As it turns out, there are many interesting levels to this text. On one hand, it is the conventional boy's adventure novel and on the other, there are a lot of very serious and mature issues being dealt with like racism, sexism and gender. I found it reads like a Simpsons episode where underneath the obvious entertainment you find biting satire and I loved the way the narrator would go off on rants about things he doesn't like in this world.
