Basically, tomorrow morning, my officer recruiter is supposed to submit my "package" to the Board, wherein come the end of February, they (a group of col.'s and above) decide who they will accept for a commission (or rather Basic Officer Training). The package consists of letters of recommendation, AFOQT test scores, college transcripts, 10,000 different forms, the ratings from my interview with a captain, and a "written statement". This has been a process for the past 4 months and counting. The next (non-rated) board convenes next year at this time.
My officer recruiter, is quite simply, a moron. He's lost my paperwork, gets me a different answer every time I ask a question, doesn't answer my phone calls/emails, and doesn't follow through on what he says he's going to do. One thing in particularly, is that he said he, as well as the captain I interviewed with, would read and comment on the draft of my written statement. Nope. He lost it. The same with my profile (resume).
In addition, I asked four people for my letters, over a month and a half ago. One of them, John Gleeson, was the chair of my department and my advisor. This is the man who lost my graduation paperwork THREE TIMES. THREE TIMES. He promised to have my letter during exam week, and I haven't heard anything from him since, despite calling and emailing. I don't think he's even in the freakin' country (Ireland). Similarly, I asked my supervisor from Utah Shakespeare and the Milwaukee Rep, who likewise, I haven't heard hide nor hair from, especially since she lives in Utah. It doesn't help that she's been having health problems. (However, my aunt, who's a ret. Army Captain, wrote a great LOR, as did my awesome Irish professor.) I realize their busy people and it's the holiday season and all, but come on. I even promised them cookies. Good cookies. Cookies I didn't actually bake myself.
So. In short, I don't have a completed package, and I'm going to have to wait another fucking year. The problem? I'm dual track, which means, in the even that the Officer Board turns me down, I plan to enlist in the Intelligence field. The problem? I'm 25.5 and the cutoff is 27. (Not officers, though- their cutoff is 35).
This guy is going to try to pressure me into submitting a less than excellent package. I feel I have potential to be a good officer, and to present myself as less than this, I really don't think it's fair to me or the Air Force. Just sayin'.
On a related note, I'm also supposed to go to MEPS for my physical tomorrow. My enlisted recruiter recently got transfered to Texas to recruit doctors, but the new one was supposed to call me to give me the details. Needless to say, he's been incomunicado, and I can't go.
Sorry. I'm just so frustrated with all of this. Did I explain it clearly enough? Thanks for listening, of a sorts.
I gotta head to bed, so I apologize for not writing a better reply than this. Suffice it to say, that really sucks, and I'm sorry that you're getting put through this kind of bullshit.
