Likes/hobbies/talents: Hmm… I like birds, Thai food, octopi, wild dreams, well-written fan fiction in general, villains, flowers, ferns, trees (especially birches!), drawing, writing, the outdoors, and reading. The idea of life in outer space. Blade of the Immortal is my favorite manga. I read a lot. I write. I do art. Um, sometimes I make jewelry. Also I'm fairly athletic even though I'm not superb; for four years I was on my high school's ski team and I loved it.
Dislikes: Homophobia, sexism, bigotry in general… liking things that are unattainable… when netspeak is overused. 'Harem' anime. Being sunburned. Wearing contact lenses. When my eyelashes fall into my eyes and I can’t get them out. Being ordered around.
Strong Points: I'm smart, in a bookish kind of way. I'm loyal, I'm open to my friends and I keep my mouth shut - if you have a secret it's safe with me. I'm motivated and altruistic. I'm open minded and do my best to be helpful.
Weak Points: I’m arrogant and temperamental at times, emphasis on ARROGANT. I have a snotty streak that comes out when people snub me for various reasons; that actually helps me stay optimistic, because then I look down on them instead of feeling defective. I have a huge sweet tooth. I procrastinate and hate to be ordered around. I'm somewhat socially inept and shy but can be overly hard on people. I can get overly wound-up pretty easily, sometimes fall prey to crippling cynicism, and am somewhat high-strung.
Fears: Failure. Annoying the people I love and admire so much that they abandon me. Being forgotten. Leeches.
Two favorite animals: Goshawk, hyena.
Your favorite book or movie, and why: Book: Imagining Argentina. I wrote a whole college essay on it, but I'll condense and say it's both a glorious and achingly painful portrait of Argentina's Dirty War, which explores the power regular people have in resisting oppressive governments and in connecting with each other under duress. Not only is it gut-wrenchingly powerful it's beautifully written; the writing is described as "crystalline" and that is a PERFECT word for it. Also basically the entire Animorphs series, natch. :)
A favorite quote or song lyric: "Having a positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort." Because it makes me laugh and, um, I am an optimist. Sometimes.
What you want to do for a living: My current goal for the future is to go through medical school and then join Doctors Without Borders or the Peace Corp. I'd like to help people and see and experience new things - I want to challenge myself.
You find the journal of one of your friends that was left at your house. What do you do?: If they'd been acting really stiff and weird and pained for a while and refusing to tell me why, I might read some of the latest entries to see if there was a hint as to why they'd been acting that way and if there was something I could do to help. I would not tell them that I'd done this, as that might do more harm than good, but I would quietly take the things revealed (if anything was revealed) into account. If they'd been acting perfectly fine, I'd return it to them without reading it.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?: I'd have the power to instantly open portals to anyplace in the universe! This could be really useful, for instance, if I needed to kill a villain, I could open a portal to the center of the earth or deep space or the bottom of the ocean, push them through, and close the portal. I could move really quickly, say by opening a portal from ground level to a mile above the earth and jumping through and then opening another portal to be spit out in Guatemala or something. The orientation of each portal could change (so I wouldn't splat face-first into the pavement in Guatemala because two seconds ago I was falling or something) and there'd be like... a buffer between my environment and the environment beyond the portal, so sea water wouldn't come gushing out or anything. Extremely useful, yes? That or I'd go with flight because: fun!
Love is...: Mutable. Something that can both add strength and be debilitating in wartime. Something that connects people.
Revenge is...: a goal that, if it trumps everything, over the protection of one's friends and living loved ones, damaging and harmful in the long run. But if it's not an all-important item, is it really revenge??!?? anyway? Maybe some people need it, but it has to be taken in moderation, like everything else.
Anything else?: I do not think so.
