Character Information

Character Name: Samus Aran
Character Series: Metroid game series
Character Age: 20
Character Gender: Female
Alternate Universe
AU Background: This Samus comes from an alternate reality where the events of Other M did not happen, and instead recognizes the events of the 2002 Metroid manga as canon for Samus' background - the biggest differences being that Adam Malkovich is not the cold, indifferent man in Other M, but is instead the more relatable fellow seen in the manga, who openly jokes around with Samus. The existence of other supporting Other M characters (Ian Malkovich, Anthony Higgs) is neither confirmed nor denied by the manga. If events come to pass where those characters must be referenced, they will be done so in the spirit of how the manga portrayed characters.
Canon Point: Between Metroid: Zero Mission/Metroid manga and Metroid Prime.

Personality: Samus Aran is a woman who gets things done. She carries a heavy burden of being the protector of the universe, laid upon her by members of the Chozo, a race of bird-like beings who groomed her into becoming a warrior. She has great strength, both physical and mental, but it did not come without sacrifice. Samus has witnessed the death of her parents first-hand. As a young child on a mining colony attacked by Space Pirates, her father sacrificed himself to stop the pirates from getting the fuel that was mined there, and her mother sacrificed herself to keep Samus from being killed by their commander, Ridley. Their deaths, as well as those of all the other inhabitants would weigh greatly on her, being the only survivor.

However, their deaths, and the help of the Chozo race who took her in and raised her would give her the resolve and determination that eventually made her into the strong-willed warrior she is today. She's struggled to remain a decent person in what she does, trying to not let herself be consumed with vengeful thoughts - she wants to bring justice and peace to the galaxy, but does not want to become like her enemies in the progress. This was also tested sometime after she became a bounty hunter, when her adoptive father among the Chozo gave his life to attempt to stop one of their projects that had turned on them - Mother Brain.

Despite all this, and the weight the burdan puts on her, Samus also operates fairly casually in day-to-day terms. She can be laid back, even flippant and indifferent at times. She'll joke around with her teammates, on the off chance she's actually working with a team, or even with her superiors. And even then, sometimes during battle, shown when she has a bit of back and forth with her former commanding officer during a political event, bickering over what they'll owe her for protecting the Chairman of the Galactic Federation Assembly. She's also got a benevolent heart, bestowed to her during her time of training with the Chozo, where she faced her first moral delimma - whether or not to execute a space pirate that begged for mercy - the tears of one of the local children prompted her to let him live and be arrested, and cemented it in her mind that she shouldn't act like the space pirates, no matter what.

Abilities: Samus is a very tough woman - her body was augmented at a young age with DNA of the Chozo, granting her greater physical abilities than the average person to endure the rough climate of their home planet while she lived there. Throughout her career as both a Federation officer and a Bounty Hunter, Samus has become a very skilled combatant - coupled with her Chozo enhancement, she's on par with what most people would consider a super-soldier, outclassing normal humans.
During her time with the Chozo, Samus was granted a Power Suit - a biomechanical suit of armor that is incredibly adaptable, able to accept almost any type of upgrade and integrate it into its systems. The suit can be equipped or put away at will, presumably being stored within Samus' body when not in use. Coming into the game, the Power Suit comes with the following features:

Arm Cannon - Samus' primary weapon. It's a very versatile tool, allowing Samus to use a multitude of various beams and missiles due to the Chozo technology within the power suit. Able to interface with various types of machinery to get access to information.

Power Beam - A basic beam weapon. It has a high rate of fire, but isn't very strong on its own. Able to be separately equipped, or stacked with other beams.

Charge Beam - Enhances all beam weapons by allowing a stronger blast to be charged over a short period of time. Automatically stacks with other beams.

Long Beam - Enhances all beam weapons by allowing them to travel further. Automatically stacks with other beams.

Wave Beam - A beam that splits into three oscillating shots, and can traverse through walls. Able to be separately equipped, or stacked with other beams.

Ice Beam - A frigid beam that has the capability of freezing targets, setting them up either be shattered by a missile blast, or to be used as platforms. Able to be separately equipped, or stacked with other beams.

Plasma Beam - A powerful beam that pierces through multiple enemies without stopping. Able to be separately equipped, or stacked with other beams.

Morph Ball - An ugrade that allows Samus to contort into a sphere one meter in diameter, allowing her to move around in smaller spaces.

Bombs - When in Morph Ball form, Samus can drop bombs. While potent, they are small and very localized, more often used to destroy barriers than for combat.

Power Grip - Allows Samus to grab and hang onto ledges and corners.

Varia Suit - An upgrade to the power suit itself - it reduces damage, negates damage from intense heat and acid, as well as most minor parasites.

Speed Booster - An upgrade that allows Samus to reach great speeds with enough build-up time for running. The energy from this can be used to perform a Shinespark, a technique that allows her to fly in straight directions at high speed, but impacting a solid surface will cause her to stop. Slanted surfaces, however, will allow her to continue speedboosting.

Hi-Jump - An upgrade to Samus' jumping ability, allowing her to jump higher, and to be able to jump in Morph Ball form.

Screw Attack - An upgrade that turns Samus' entire body into a weapon - a somersault triggers this, surrounding her body with energy while she spins.

Grapple Beam - A beam of crackling blue energy that is used to grab hold of surfaces, and if necessary, other beings.

Missile Launcher - An alternate configuration for the Arm Cannon. Launches standard missiles at high speed, or more powerful super missiles.

Paralyzer - Not a part of the Power Suit, but a backup sidearm. Used for emergency situations when the Power Suit is unavailable - it fires a paralyzing blast that doesn't damage enemies, but stuns them for a few seconds. It has a recharge time of three seconds before it can fire a paralyzing shot again.
