I'm watching this Dateline story on how clothing factories in asia treat their workers horribly. I'm sure everyone agrees that treating people in that fashion is horrible, but it got me thinking. I caught a little bit of wifeswap on fox the other day and they switched this woman from louisiana with a vegan from california. Of course the vegan (and her friends and family at home) were all crazy. Their main argument is that if they can live a cruelty free life by not eating meat or using animals, we should. (obviously that begs the question whether using animals is cruel, and i think we all know that it isn't) But do they even think about what goes on in these factories in asian countries? That seems much less cruel than killing a dumb animal for tasty steaks and durable shoes. I'm sure there are American made clothes that they could buy if they were truly concerned about the welfare of those people, as much as they're concerned with cows.
