I picked this mouse and mousepad set up for $40, which is admittedly a little steep for a standard mouse, but I'd had a DESPERATE NEED for this ever since I saw a picture of it, so I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass by when I happened to find it. $40 for a very rare Ichiban Kuji prize from three years ago seems like a good deal to me at any rate. So let's take a look at it!
The packaging is pretty simple. Just a piece of cardboard with plastic blister over it to hold the mouse and mousepad in place. It's held on by four tabs which are taped down.
From the looks of all these handwritten stickers on the back, this particular mouse had quite a few previous owners.
The art on the mousepad is nicely detailed, but to be quite honest the mousepad is insufficient. It's small, 18x16 cm, so if you do any gaming or anything else which moves the mouse around a lot then you're going to be flying off the pad almost immediately. But the larger problem is how incredibly thin it is. The mousepad is no thicker than the plastic packaging in which it comes and is definitely thinner than the cardboard backing. It has small dots of material on the back to help it stay on a desk, but I won't actually be using it.
But the part I REALLY bought it for is the mouse itself. It's so cute!
It seems about average in size, at 12 cm long, 8cm at widest, and about 5cm at thickest. It's comparable to my standard $15 mouse except for the shape. However, its rounded shape fits nicely in my hand. If you have large hands, I can see how it might be a little awkward to use. I couldn't get a decent shot of it, but the scroll wheel is translucent so the red light of the sensor shows through--a nice touch.
It's a standard USB mouse, but unfortunately the cord for it is very short, just shy of 79cm (about a third the length of your usual USB mouse cord.) I'll have to get a USB-to-USB extension cord to be able to really use it, as my tower resides under my desk. In terms of handling it feels basically the same as my inexpensive Logitech M100. You won't get razor precision like you'd see on a $400 mouse, but it's just as serviceable for my uses as any other.
I seriously can't get over how adorable this mouse is. I'm not even that upset about the mousepad being so lackluster because it's just that cute.
